AA seems to be able to find ways to advertise its product in generating revenue in more ways than just the usual TV / Print ads. The staff chosen to be extra's must be beyond words right about now.

"American's involvement with The Bourne Legacy was made possible because of American's long-standing relationship with NBC Universal. American was able to provide location assistance during the filming of The Bourne Legacy, and several American Airlines employees had roles in the film. Scenes from the action-thriller were shot inside American's Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and onboard an American Airlines Boeing 777-200 aircraft."

it seams to be the new way to advertise.... remember when i saw the avengers there was an awkward shot of a bus "busted up" bus stop that clearly had southwest's bags fly free campaign printed on the side. its not just airlines. in the same movie there were a couple of shots where the main focus was the Acura logo on the car being driven rather than on the action in the car.

It seams to work because the audience can't really fast forward throughout the "commercial" like they can with a DVR.

Product placement in movies is nothing new, it has been around for decades. Whenever you can clearly see a company logo in a movie 9 out of 10 times it is not an accident.

It's interesting when you see Apple MacBooks; sometimes the logo is covered up and sometimes it's not. I do know the TV show '24' always showed the Apple logo...one of 1,288 reasons I liked it.

Agreed. I definitely think product placement is the way advertising seems to be heading. When I watched The Dark Knight Rises last weekend, there is an airport scene (which was filmed somewhere in Scotland, apparently. Does anyone have an idea which one?) and at check-in the desks were all labeled with Delta logos as far as one could see. Additionally, there were logos for GNC and others placed at certain points throughout the movie. Smart, because it's an advertisement but it also doesn't detract from the movie like a commercial break would.

On the original topic, hats off to AA. They get to show off their nice new terminal and involve their staff in a major motion picture. That's definitely thinking outside the box.

I was at JFK T8 when they were filming this .. was cool to see the filming but it was a pain for passengers. Both AA rented security and the producer's security were flat out nasty to paying passengers, forcing them to walk in tiny corridors, etc. And the extras were also starting to complain about all the takes
