I didn't think they ever literally *had* a "first class" at all. I mean, when I flew them, "first class," two summers ago from LGA-MSP-SNA, the seats were almost as hard as a park bench with little padding. Sure, we were seated in row 2, and sure it was termed "first class." But I thought it was meant as a marketing joke, in which the Company assumed passengers knew better. The service had some modicum of what normally is considered "first class," but those seats were really charter-quality coach.
Well, at any rate, if this newsstory is true, I don't think the regular passengers will mind. Afterall, they never really had a *true* first class experience on NW.

Yeah the f/c seats in their narrowbodies are more uncomfortable than coach, but he was talking about on their 747's, they have a first class, a world buisness class and coach. Its the only plane in their fleet that has a intl. f/c.

From what I've heard, NW's World Business Class seats will replace the existing First Class seats on the 747s. Also, some seats will be taken out on the lower level to increase the WBC pitch to 60" (from 48" now). No word yet on whether the pitch on the DC-10 WBC seats will be changed to 60" (I believe it is also 48" now.)
As for Seven_fifty7's comment, Domestic first class will remain.
