Can passengers on Qantas's flight between New York and Los Angelese connect to their other flights to AKL and MEL. I know no local traffic is allowed on this route, but I think that this would be very popular if they turned it into sort of a minihub (well, it already is, counting AA)

Yes you can connect over LAX to MEL/BNE/AKL
