All rightee then, everybody...the previous thread had gotten to the point where I couldn't even load it fully enough to announce this new one, so apologies in advance for any confusion. Let's continue where we left off, so I'll start with the latest trip under my belt, FRL3707, YWG-MSP:
Launching off of YWG,s runway 18 at a local time of 6:18 AM. It's getting lighter aready...spring is coming!
We were rewarded with this gorgeous sunrise after breaking through the low-level clouds!

Why thank you.

MSI nVidia GTX560ti 2GB (OC'd also)
8GB Kingston HyperX (OC'd)
Corsair 800W PSU
Asus Motherboard and many fans
I would have preferred an Intel machine but I didn't have the funds, plus when OC'd the X6 does very nicely.
Oh yes and I also use the ENB series visual effects (which was designed for GTA incidentally) which help that extra visual shine and give it a more "wow" factor.

Been a while since I have flown. I have been in Russia for a while, mainly flying between LED and the various Moscow airports. Decided it was time to fly back to the States, and I decided on flying LED-ORD with an IL96 operated by SU.
Pushing back at the gate an a cold and gray day in LED
Holding short at the active
And we are on our way
Still climbing towards FL360
After a long time of flying over water and a brief crossing of Greenland, the northern edges of Canada are in sight
I was about 500 miles west of YYR and switched to the cockpit view and noticed my fuel was at 10%! I pulled up FS Navigator and searched for an airport nearby that could handle the IL96, but couldn't find one. So I changed my flightplan to YYR.
With my fuel way, way, way beyond dangerously low I am turning towards YYR, ignoring ATC instructions to circle for another runway.
The moment my fuel ran out and the engines cut off.
Some of the wreckage of SU flight 96 is visible through the fugly trees that I have installed.
The IL96 in real life has more than enough legs to the route I was flying. I already searched www.avsim.su and found an updated aircraft.cfg file that adds in more fuel, range and performance and will try again at a later date.
I am not sure it would help.
Plane is coming back home from the Canadian/Carribean instalment in a fortnight anyway. It is C-GTVF/OK-TVF, my repaint, real config. I am waiting for one more clarification before I let it run wild.

Ahh, BCN my former home, I have seen the BA 767 there a few times, and the approach to 25R is amazing flying parallel to the city, planes flew over the house I used to live on their way to the airport, I guess PAX on the right side must have had quite a nice view of Sagrada Familia.
Oh and in BCN, landings are on 25R/7L, takeoffs on 25L/7R
The runway running diagonal to them it´s only used for late night /early morning arrivals (from the sea) but I think it is closed now being repaved or something.
I am now in MAD and I can always see the 767 taking off in the early afternoon
I love how BA still puts 767 on some of the short European flights. Sometimes they even bring one to DUS, I heard that's mainly for cargo reasons then.
Indeed the approach was very nice. Couldn't make out the Sagrada Familia, but I saw the harbor and the city. Even twice, due to the go around.
Thanks for the heads up regarding the runway configuration. Didn't know that, my charts said nothing about it, 25R had an ILS and ATC assigned me to it. Next time I'll use the proper configuration.

Weather looks good for arrival.
Nice view of the latter stages of our arrival route.
I do love this piece of kit.
After touching down just after a BA T7 vacated, we were followed closely behind by this CX A343 at about 4 miles behind. Nice job ATC (for once )
Also I like the shadow of our wing peaking into view.

No, the RB211 is a triple-spool design while the V2500 is a dual shaft high bypass turbofan. The engine was developed by RR, P&W, MTU and one other, me thinks...

Wow, that's really impressive. Maybe one should consider going oldschool for FS9.. I only started playing FS recently, and I just automatically assumed that the most recent product would be the best. But I'm really starting to hear more and more about people flying in FS9 and it looks just as good visually, I must say. That's of course thanks to a lot of addons, but if it's more framerate friendly, then I'll take that. Any major drawbacks to FS9 compared to FSX?
About the PMDG777, I'm nowhere near having the skillset to operate a PMDG aircraft, so for now I'll just stick to what I have
Of course FSX offers more, compared to FS9. For example you can't do polar routes in FS9 (the world is flat according to MS, and just ends with an invisible wall above 80 North or so - never got into such a situation on my hundreds of FS flights though). FSX of course has better graphics if everything is maxed out, at the price of low FPS on most systems. But I heard that it would hugely benefit from Intel's Sandybridge CPU's.
More autogen, better water, higher resolution textures, the new generation of aircraft add-ons (like the PMDG NGX) are developed for FSX-only.
Sounds like a lot of reasons to use FSX over FS9, but in FSX I take the NGX for a ride at a default airport, no AI-traffic, no improved textures, landclass, mesh or any other add-on that is pretty much crucial to have a realistic experience and get 20 FPS.
In FS9 I have everything maxed out, thousands of AI-flightplans, add-ons for mesh, landclass, textures and everything there is to modify and get a constant and smooth 30 FPS (they are locked at 30). No matter if I go to an airstrip in the desert, or sit in my PMDG 747 virtual cockpit at JFK, facing the skyline of Manhattan and the sky filled with clouds. And it looks almost as good as default FSX.
I tried FSX more than once and always went back to FS9. Maybe in a few years I will switch, when I can run it with the same amount of add-ons at good performance. You should give FS9 a try. But don't panic when you start it up and see everything default for the first time. You really need to put a lot of work/add-ons into it to get good results. If you need any help with that, just contact me and I will help you.

That's very kind of you I'm really considering FS9 since my only computer is a laptop. What system are you running FS9 on? And how well do you think the system posted below will run FS9, maybe even compared to FSX if possible? (anyone else than Speedbird kind enough to contribute would of course be very welcome.)
You would definitely see a huge improvement in performance over FSX when using FS9. My system:
Intel i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz
ASUS P6T SE Mainboard
6 GB Corsair PC-12800 DDR3 RAM at 1,600 MHz
EVGA GTX 570 2.6 GB Edition
Corsair HX850W PSU
WD3000HLFS 300GB Velociraptor for FS9
WD1002FAEX 1TB Black for Windows 7 64-bit and applications/games
ASUS Xonar DG Soundcard
This is relatively high-end, except for the CPU. I guess I would see a huge improvement with an Intel Sandybridge, but that would also require a new Mainboard and I don't wanna spend that money at the moment.
Now to your system. It's good that you have an Intel CPU, as they generally perform a lot better in FS than AMD. The RAM looks sufficient for FS9, and your GPU looks decent too. I just switched from ATI to Nvidia, as they are a lot better for FSX (I saw an increase of about 10 FPS compared to my previous HD5850 - still not enjoyable though). You will probably experience a drop in FPS in dense areas like NYC, London etc. with an FS9-setup like mine, but it should be a very enjoyable experience.
I can't even imagine what FSX must be like for you, even my system struggles with it. And I can play any other modern game just fine. BF3 runs at 60-70 FPS, Batman Arkham City around 50-60. FSX is just a terrible example of how to butcher a great engine with bad code. If they would have implemented Multi-Core support we wouldn't have any problems at all. But yea, try FS9 and see for yourself. And like I said, don't get scared by the out-of-the-box FS9. Look at my screenshots and you see what still is possible with this 9 year old piece of software...

It surely sounds interesting. I'll have to look into FS9 for sure. I luckily haven't spend any money on FSX addons, so I'll definitely give FS9 a try, and given the screenshots that you have posted I cannot see why I wouldn't stick with it if the general flying experience is nearly as good as in FSX. I'd really like to hear what addons you've installed in order to get your FS9 to look that pretty, cause it definitely beats anything I've seen on my screen in FSX. So if I get better graphics along with better framerates and the flying dynamics are nearly the same, I'll definitely have a go and probably stick with FS9. Your contributions look just as good as the FSX screenies posted in these threads for sure
Thank you so much for the help. It's really appreciated
Wow, that could become quite the list. The overall flying experience shouldn't be too different from FSX. I tried both and don't see/feel that much of a difference.
Let's see, what add-ons would be the essential of the essential. I'll just name you a few, in my opinion, essential add-ons in different categories to get your FS going.
Global Add-Ons:
1. Real Environment Xtreme (with Overdrive) - gives you stunning HD textures for sky, clouds, sun, water and so much more. Really one of the products that enhances FS9 and brings it close to FSX standard.
2. Ground Environment Pro by Flight1 - replaces the default ground textures with better ones. You can also create custom sets for different weather conditions.
3. Ultimate Terrain USA + Canada/Alaska + Europe (3 different products) - realistic coastlines, rivers, streets, landclass and so on for FS. Only enhances the above mentioned regions though.
4. FSGlobal (I still use the 2008 version) - high resolution mesh. meaning your mountains in the whole world have realistic terrain data, coming from a NASA shuttle mission. It makes a huge impact over the default mesh/terrain that comes with FS. There's comparison shots on the internet, just google it and you will see what I mean.
5. Active Sky Evolution - gives you an awesome real-time weather engine. A whole new game compared to the default MS weather.
6. I use a combination of WorldOfAi-freeware AI-Traffic and hundreds of other traffic files i compiled myself. Also MilitaryAiWorks has nice military AI-Traffic. Adds a lot to the atmosphere and populates your airports and airspace.
Aircraft (complex, heavy birds only):
1. PMDG 747
2. PMDG MD-11
3. Level-D 767
4. iFly 737NG
For not so heavy (but still very detailed renditions) aircraft try anything by Carenado. They offer a lot of Cessnas, Mooneys and so on.
Scenery (now, that's a tough one. There's so many good sceneries out there - pay and freeware. But also bad ones, so always check reviews, screenshots or check the forum on avsim.com about experiences):
1. Aerosoft usually has good quality sceneries of airports
2. Imaginesim creates decent airports, mostly in the US but lately also in Asia (HKG, SIN)
3. FSDreamteam has awesome sceneries
4. there are many other designers that have some great airports. it all depends on your personal preference and where you want to fly. Also check avsim.com for freeware. Maybe start with Sunskyjet's PHL and the YVR scenery by JGabbert/addictedtoairspace.
I would say the most important ones are the ones I listed first in the Global category. There's many many more, but these should get you started. If you want more infos, or have questions about a specific add-on, just ask. Hope this helps. I guess it can be confusing in the beginning with all the products out there.

What exactly are you having trouble with?
The FMC setup options menu will give you the option if you scroll through the PMDG Setup->Equipment (I think...similar anyway) and that will allow you to choose if your aircraft has the HUGS or not. You can also set whether you want it to automatically set up the system based on the parameters you set.
For example, if you tune both NAV radios to an ILS frequency with the relevant course settings. Once established on the glide/loc the aircraft will automatically enter Land 3 and the correct display will be shown.

Speedbird217;
I've gotten hold of FS9 now, and what a difference! My FS9 looks much better than FSX and runs very smooth. I'm slowly starting to get a hold of some addons from your list. Now I'm just stuck with a problem, for some reason I cannot take screenshots? I googled and found out that I was supposed to use the PrtSc key and paste it to paint, but whenever I do so it pastes a picture of whatever program I have open 'behind' FS9 - i.e. my browser, iTunes etc? Any fix? Thanks in advance.
And THANK YOU for recommending FS9. So much more enjoyable.
So glad you have a good experience now! You will see that the more add-ons you add, the better it will get! And frames will stay pretty much the same.
Fabo is right, YAFSscreen is a great tool. I use it for my screenshots. You can set the quality of the image and output format (I use jpeg and highest quality). If you use Windows 7, you might want to switch to the classic theme for using FS9 and taking screenshots. Sometimes there are issues with Windows Aero and taking screenshots, so when you press prt sc it would only take a snapshot of your desktop. If you switch Aero off by using Windows classic theme there are no issues at all. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing some images from your FS9.

Well I'm out of FSX for a while.
Had a hard drive crash and I lost everything. I've since went out and bought a new hard drive, but something has disheartened me significantly.
After spending near enough £60 on both the 800/900 & 600/700 NGX packages, PMDG will not let me re-download either of them. Because I decided not to purchase their extended download stuff, the only way I can use them again is to re-purchase them.
My opinion of PMDG before now was whilst expensive, can be worth while in the long run. Now I am of the opinion that they are well and truly mastered in the art of extortion.
I have actually been onto the PMDG forum and lambasted Mr Randazzo, but I doubt it will be of any help. I should have stuck with iFly.
EDIT: Turns out you can buy the Extended download service after the purchase has been made. I have since done that and are waiting for them to get back to me. I still don't think I should have to, but I can't complain at £3.75.

It has been a while since I last flew. And it also took a little while to complete this flight. My route was LED-ORD with a SU Il-96. Started it last Sunday and thanks to the pause button in FS9, I was able to fly a little here and there and finally wrapped up the flight this Wednesday night.
Early morning departure out of LED, a few overnight visitors at the intl terminal.
An early morning arrival for this FV Airbus
Rotate
And after a lot of miles and a few days, I am overflying the Mackinac Bridge, the third longest suspension bridge in the States and it connects the upper peninsula of Michigan to the rest of the state.
After racing the sunrise for my entire flight, it is starting to catch up with me
In northern Illinois, overflying the Fox River, which is close to where I live.
Slowing my approach really allowed the daylight to catch up to me and my arrival on 4L.
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Your shot definitely makes appetite for more! I can't tell where this is though, definitely somewhere in (South-East) Asia, haha. BKK? Or KUL maybe?
But feel warned, there's a ton of pictures this time. Including a real trip report from my KLM-flight and pictures from Bergen. So I hope you have a broadband internet connection
Here's a little Sneak Peak of what you can expect, hope you enjoy:
(In case you're wondering: Yes, picture #7 is actually part of the real trip report. Just wanted to check if you would notice )

Very nice Harmonium! Love the weather in Heathrow and Schiphol and the lights during the early morning departure. It seems you've pimped up your FS9 quite a bit already, glad to see you're getting good results!

Thanks, it's really all your deserving Yes, I've spent some of my hard earned money on FS9, as I could see clearly that this was the way to go with my current computer situation. Thank you so much for your advice, it is really appreciated. By the way, a little further up I saw some BCN pics of yours - what scenery do you use?

Hehehe, way off man, Seoul Incheon
Quoting speedbird217 (Reply 62): Here's a new flight report that has a special meaning to me. I've been on this exact flight 11 days ago.
Cool and nice set too, Norway looks like an interesting place to do some flying.

Decided to do a charter flight for the Chicago Cubs. When they are on the road, they charter UA for the flights. This weekend they are playing 90 miles up I94 in Milwaukee. Probably in real life they would've just chartered a bus for this short hop, but this is flight sim and not bus sim. So, here are some shots from my short 90 mile flight north, UA on ORD-MKE, Project Airbus A320.
Parking in the Signature GA space, with the Monfort Aviation B727-200 in the background, they often fly the NBA's Chicago Bulls.
The GA ramp gives the players and others a chance to board without the hassles of navigating the terminals at ORD.
Downtown Chicago off in the background.
A JL B777-300ER slowly moving towards Rwy 10 for departure.
Passing the normal UA gates at T1.
A lot of planes in this shot
And we are off, up over the remote parking and the GA ramp off to the right
Climbing up to a lofty FL070.
Flying past PWK in the northern suburbs. I used to work a few miles from here and when it was warm, I would spend several hours there after work in the spotters area watching the traffic and listening to ATC communications thanks to the speaker they setup. This was also where I took my only two flight lessons...in a time that I call pre-mortgage.
Number one for arrival at MKE with a DL MD88 number 2 and a FL B717 number 3.....both had to do a go around as I was a little slow with my approach.
A FL B737 holding short, will possibly be a WN B737 in the future.
Slowing down in the land of bratwurst, cheap American lager beer and deep fried cheese curds.
The BBJ looks much smaller than the A320, that one belongs to Swiftair, probably doing a sports charter as well.

Been a short while. My FS looks a little crappy at the moment as I've still not got round to re-installing everything yet. I forgot my login for FlightSim Store, but I've managed to recover it so I'll be able to get REX back up soon thankfully
Anyhow these are from various sessions the past couple of days.
Typhoon departing BRS
Then annoying a U2 A319.
LX A320 approaching ZRH RWY 16
Rolling out
Turning off the active
BA's shuttle from GLA to LHR is ready to leave alongside an LC S340
Taxiing out in the rain
Uneventful flight. Here we are on final followed by a VS A346, company B744 & EI A320 further back.
Pax view as we slow on 27R at LHR
The new VS livery is starting to grow on me
By chance I spotted BAs Olympic "Dove" livery. Not sure on this one yet.

Continuing my Chicago Cubs charter flight, after their Sunday afternoon victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, they hopped into their chartered UA A320 and headed south to St Louis to take on the St Louis Cardinals for a short two game series Monday and Tuesday. The following pics are my virtual flight between MKE-STL.
I never get tired of seeing Frontier's livery
Some retro Midwest Airlines action. I have the Frontier Airlines E190s installed but not yet updated the plans to have them in action.
Arriving AirTran B717
A Southwest Airlines B737-300 arriving
More retro Midwest Airlines action
And yet another AirTran B717 arriving
Finally it was my turn! To the skies and soon to be turning towards the northern suburbs of Chicago.
Flying past Chicago O'hare as we continue to climb to FL340 and towards Springfield, IL.
Downtown St Louis
The airport is not as dead as it looks. I had a bad AFCAD installed, causing very little parking to be available
Parked at a remote stand. Now where is that bus to take the players to the hotel?
All of those are fantastic! Nice to see you both back in the threads, as well
Once again I can blame school for the long absence...unfortunately finals and all of that have to come before FS
I have plans to do some flying today, so in the meantime here are a few shots so you know I'm still alive
I couldn't resist the opportunity for at least one shot...
....Aaand here's the newest member of my FS fleet: the SkySpirit 767-200v5! Here N321AA rotates out of PHX for LAX.
Cruising above the Arizona desert.
And here a fellow 762 N246AY rotates off of 27 at AMS headed for MUC one early morning.

After a quick two game series with the St Louis Cardinals wrapped up earlier this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs headed to STL and boarded their chartered UA A320, flt 1804 and headed back to Chicago.
Today this UA A320 is the largest private jet at STL
Waiting my turn to get out of St Louis
With a better AFCAD in place now, there is some traffic at STL
Even some GA and cargo action
The new runway at STL is so far away from the rest of the airport
Approaching ORD Rwy 4L after a very short flight, about to overfly Rwy 10.
A shot of the busy terminals
For a visual approach, I landed it right on the line....amazed myself with the landing
Parked in the Signature ramp at ORD
No flights for a while, the Cubs have a series at home with the Philadelphia Phillies and then the Chicago White Sox. Next flight will not be until the end of the weekend when the fly down to Houston, which will give me time to find scenery for Houston.

Awesome shots everyone. Since I've only airliner I've re-installed thus far is the NGX, then you're about to be sick of the sight of the damn thing once I'm done
But I got REX OD (plus verification for Essentials which is good for future shots) re-installed so I thought I'd go mad.
Also I've just realised that I've spent over 8 hours in the air on FS today (no time compression either)...so I think I'll take a day off tomorrow
First from yesterday
Good morning LAX, I'll be seeing you tomorrow
Outbound to SFO
Morning approach into SFO
AA 738 climbing away from ORD for DCA
Now from today
DL 73G taxiing out at BOS for CVG
Nice atmosphere
Going along nicely
Couldn't resist
On approach into CVG. 45 min downtime here, then off for a quick stop in TPA followed by a 5hr jaunt to LAX
Climbing out of CVG for TPA (no more from this leg)
Busting through the cloud layer on departure from TPA to be greeted by this. REX makes everything better

Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 61): Very neat! I wish there was an app to view charts as we go.
I believe there was some kind of Lufthansa app that could do this. Someone mentioned it - but it might not be available to the public. I've not tried looking for it.
Meanwhile - BA 747-8F approaching Melbourne:
Hong Kong Trader B747-8F, B-LJA:
That's on PMDGs B747-8F, painted it myself. Not released as I've got nowhere to upload it.
VH-OJO in the Wallabies colours:
On PMDG B747-400X - not released though. Will do if I can upload it somewhere.
Bali to Sydney with Concorde, BA9025C:
Very cold! -82ºC, at only 51000ft.
Over Australia, supersonic.
Subsonic, near Orange. Descending slowly towards Sydney where I landed on RWY34L.

It only contains 40 airports though (according to the product page) and costs 20 bucks. That's pretty expensive in my opinion.
Btw that 747-8F in Cathay colors just looks great.

I accidentally deleted all of my old flightsim photos from Photobucket, so my older posts are now broken.....whoops.
Continuing on my flights that recreate the charter that takes the Chicago Cubs to their next city for upcoming games, late yesterday afternoon I flew ORD-IAH with another UA A320, that is the plane of choice lately with United and the Cubs.
Only thing I could not recreate with ORD was the massive amounts of foreign government aircraft parked on a remote taxiway that brought officials into Chicago for this weekend's NATO meetings. Which yesterday I went out to ORD to see if I could spot the Slovakian Tu-154 that came into town and was not let down, got my first and maybe only Tu-154 sighting! For some reason I could not post the picture here.
I started up in a GA parking spot, but I picked the wrong one, I was way over near the AA and UA hangars.
Next in line for my late afternoon departure
Next stop, Houston.
After departure, overflying ORD after a long turn to the south
Climbing through the massive storm clouds that moved into the Chicago area in the early evening.
Sun setting on the day.
After a long and very weird approach into IAH. the back wheels have touched down.
After a very long taxi to parking, it seems they put me in the gate overflow mixed in with the cargo guys.

Quoting speedbird217 (Reply 83): Lovely shots Gingersnap! That first shot with the sun reflection on the tarmac looks incredibly real!
Thank you so much. I do need to get my ground scenery in order, but I've been spending too much money lately but I'll get GEX or something soon
After spending a week or so criss-crossing the USA along with a stop in Hawaii...it was time to go "home".
VS008 LAX-LHR
I didn't get any shots until I was well over the Atlantic the next morning. Mainly because I took off, got her up to cruise and went to bed
Cruising nicely at FL370. G-VEIL "Queen of the Skies" named to celebratethe centenary of the Entente Cordiale
Pax view
Seen passing Windsor
AA T7 follows 6 miles behind
Moments after touching down 09L at LHR
AA pilots clearly standing on the brakes to ensure the conga line of BA 32X aircraft following don't go around.

This flight was from Wednesday night, after playing the Houston Astros (and losing by the way), the Chicago Cubs boarded their chartered UA A320 and headed to PIT. This is that flight, IAH-PIT.
A departure time of 11:30PM at a quiet IAH, except for some cargo haulers heading out.
Arrival into PIT, flying past downtown for an almost 3AM arrival.
